High-Quality Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration Tissue Acquisition

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration is a multistep procedure that involves proper clinical indication, correct selection of needles, adapting evidence-based techniques such as the fanning maneuver and not routinely using suction or the stylet for tissue sampling, and establishing reliable cytopathology support. Integrating cytopathology in the training curriculum and developing ...

Endoscopic ultrasound fine-needle aspiration vs. fine-needle biopsy: tissue is always the issue

Initially described by Vilmann et al. in 1992 [1], endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is a validated diagnostic procedure in the field of gastrointestinal pathology. It is the current standard of care for sampling pancreatic mass lesions, with reported sensitivities ranging from 64% to 95%, specificities from 75% to 100%, and diagnostic accuracies from 78% to 95% [2]....

HISTOPATHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS OF GASTROINTESTINAL BIOPSY SAMPLES WITH ENDOSCOPIC FINDING OF ERYTHEMA: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Background & Aims: Gastrointestinal diseases are common clinical conditions and due to the fact that in a significant number of endoscopic cases, the only finding is mucosal erythema,, this study was performed to evaluate the histopathological findings of gastrointestinal diseases with only mucosal erythema. Materials & Methods: In this analytical-descriptive and retrospective study, all gastr...

A meta-analysis of endoscopic ultrasound–fine-needle aspiration compared to endoscopic ultrasound–fine-needle biopsy: diagnostic yield and the value of onsite cytopathological assessment

Background The diagnostic yield of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is variable, and partly dependent upon rapid onsite evaluation (ROSE) by a cytopathologist. Second generation fine-needle biopsy (FNB) needles are being increasingly used to obtain core histological tissue samples. Aims Studies comparing the diagnostic yield of EUS guided FNA versus FNB have reach...

Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration Vs Fine-Needle Biopsy.

RM The primary goal of fine-needle aspiration is to acquire individual cells as opposed to tissue, which is the aim of fine-needle biopsy. Cells may not necessarily provide the stroma, or the associated architecture, of the surrounding tissue. Thus, if the surrounding architecture is needed to make a diagnosis, a fine-needle biopsy, which typically uses a core biopsy needle, should provide that.
